Man Appeals Court Judgement, After Being Sentenced to Death For Killing Road Safety Officer
After being sentenced to death for killing a Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal Assistant ( RMA III ), Muhammad Babangida, a driver, Usman Aliyu, has filed an appeal.
A state high court sitting in Birnin Kebbi , Kebbi State , had , on October 4 , 2018 , sentenced Aliyu to death for crushing Babangida to death along Ahmadu Bello Way in the state capital on April 3, 2017 .
The Corps Public Education Officer , Bisi Kazeem , in a terse text message to our correspondent, confirmed that the ruling was being appealed in Sokoto State .
Kazeem said, “ The matter is on appeal at the Court of Appeal, Sokoto. ”
The FRSC had said Aliyu, who drove a Black Toyota Corolla with the registration number KLG 342 AA on the day of the incident , had attempted to knock down a member of the corps ’ patrol team, Abubakar Garba Abubakar.
When he could not knock Abubakar down , he was said to have “ recklessly headed for the deceased and ensured that he crushed him to death as his first target . ”
The accused was also reported to have fled the scene after killing his victim. However , he was arrested along Kalgo Road by the police after a tip-off.
